Live weather, explained

Most weather apps show you a number. SunorSnow puts that number in context. The dashboard above lets you follow live conditions and a three-day forecast for up to six cities side by side — handy for travel, for keeping an eye on family abroad, or for comparing destinations before you book. Add a city by typing its name; your list stays in your own browser, and nothing is sent to us.

Behind the dashboard sits a library of climate guides for 30 world cities, each with a month-by-month table and a written guide to the seasons, local weather quirks and the best time to visit, plus plain-language explainers on how forecasts work and how to read them. Everything is published in English, Spanish, French, Hindi and Arabic.

Where our information comes from

Live conditions, forecasts and air-quality readings come from WeatherAPI.com and update every time you load a city. The monthly averages in our climate guides are long-term figures consistent with climate normals published by national weather services and the World Meteorological Organization. Guides and articles are written and reviewed by our editor, and we correct errors as soon as readers report them through our contact page.

Learn About Weather

From how forecasts work to the science behind storms — weather education for curious minds.

Plan your trip by season

The best time to visit a city depends on what you want from the weather: warm sun, dry days, cool air for walking, or simply no monsoon. These suggestions come straight from our city climate guides, which set out the month-by-month detail behind each recommendation.

December – February

Northern winter is peak season for warm, dry escapes: the desert cities are pleasant rather than scorching, and South Asia and West Africa are in their dry season.

March – May

Spring brings mild temperatures to Europe and East Asia before the summer heat, and it is the warm end of the dry season in Mexico City.

June – August

Northern Europe and Canada are at their warmest and brightest, while Jakarta is in its drier months and Johannesburg enjoys sunny, dry winter days.

September – November

Autumn is often the most settled season in New York and East Asia, and spring arrives in Sydney, Buenos Aires and the rest of the southern hemisphere.

How our climate guides are made

Each guide combines a month-by-month table — average high and low temperatures, rainfall and humidity — with a written explanation of the city’s seasons, its Köppen climate type and the local quirks that averages hide, such as London’s changeable showers or Dubai’s summer humidity on the coast. The figures are rounded long-term averages consistent with the climate normals published by national weather services and the World Meteorological Organization.

Averages describe what is typical, not what will happen on a given day. For the next few days, use the live dashboard, which draws on WeatherAPI.com. If you spot a figure that looks wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will check and correct it.

Three ways to use SunorSnow

Check today’s conditions for up to six cities at once on the dashboard; read a climate guide when you are choosing dates for a trip or a move; and use the Learn section when you want to understand what a forecast is actually telling you — from air pressure to the chance of rain.
